As its name suggests, you can’t get much higher, either literally or figuratively, than High Point Villa. This comfortable two-bedroom house sits truly majestically some 700 feet above sea level, and commands some of the very best views from any Tortola property. Clearly visible are both the Sir Francis Drake Channel and the neighbouring isle of St John, and at least a dozen other islands, too.
The house is built and furnished to a very high standard, and offers spacious accommodation that is ideally suited to either one or two couples. Being very private, and by definition not overlooked, it’s the perfect place to celebrate a honeymoon or that special anniversary. The circular living room provides relaxing, deep-cushioned seating, a good-quality entertainment system, and an indoor dining area. It opens to three sides to the wide wooden verandah providing far-reaching views of the ocean and outlying islands. The deck is effectively a convenient extension of the living room, with cushioned seating and alfresco dining table for up to six people. A wet bar with table and chairs is located to the side.
The elevated, galley-style kitchen runs the width of the rear part of the living room. Ocean views can be seen through the wide, arched openings. Top-quality tableware and a good range of appliances are stocked in the well-equipped kitchen. Guests should be aware, though, that there is no dishwasher. Likewise there is no air-conditioning at High Point Villa, but numerous overhead fans, cooling tradewinds, tiled floors and high, vaulted ceilings keep the house comfortable even on the warmest of days. And plenty of shade is provided if desired.
Both of the two bedrooms have four-poster king-size beds and ensuite bathrooms with spacious, outdoor showers. The master bedroom suite, to the east, benefits from a verandah with seating and its own private patio area.
The pool is of a good size, with predictably stunning views. The sunny deck is furnished with chaise lounges and poolside umbrellas. There is a heated Jacuzzi next to the pool, allowing guests to enjoy some evening star-gazing while luxuriously submerged in the bubbling hot tub. Mature planting, with tropical flowering plants and swaying palms, provides an oasis of calm at the top of the hill.
To the rear of the property, natural stone steps lead up to a gazebo, a peaceful area to take a nap in the swinging hammock. Ocean views extend to the east, all the way to Virgin Gorda, and on a clear night you can even see the lights twinkling on St Croix, some 45 miles away.
