Situated on the top of a hill in the central area of Virgin Gorda’s northern coast, Tamar offers stunning ocean views over North Sound and Leverick Bay. Guests can also enjoy views of Biras Creek and Bitter End Yacht Club to the east, as well as the outlying islands of Saba Rock and Prickly Pear. Tamar is unashamedly luxurious, and its opulent furnishings have an African theme throughout. The property can accommodate up to ten guests in five outstanding king bedroom suites.
The villa is built over two storeys, with the living accommodation and two of the four bedrooms on the upper level. It’s surrounded by beautiful mature gardens with sweet-smelling frangipani, swaying palms, and almost unimaginably colourful bougainvillea – a real feast for city-weary eyes. A wide and imposing flight of steps leads up to the villa’s entrance, as well as to the private pool and deck area, and some welcoming shaded patio areas for rest and relaxation. The ocean views over Leverick Bay and beyond from the pool and deck area are out of this world.
The impressively large, glass-walled Great Room has a living area with comfortable natural seagrass sofas, with entertainment provided by a large-screen TV, a DVD player and a top-quality sound system. There is also a formal dining area, as well as a convenient second dining area, and a well-equipped kitchen with all the appliances an enthusiastic cook could require. On two sides of the Great Room are sliding patio doors leading out to the verandah – spanning the width of the Great Room – for alfresco dining. To the rear of the Great Room is an additional TV area with cushioned sofas and chairs.
Access to three of the five king bedroom suites is from the Great Room. The suites are furnished in an eclectic mixture of unique furnishings and original art, and have both walk-in closets and spacious en suite bathrooms with large walk-in showers. Sliding patio doors lead out to a private balcony with spectacular ocean views of the North Sound and outlying islands. A wooden spiral staircase leads down to the two further king bedrooms – both the same size as upstairs, and offering the same amenities – as well as a gym with weights, a treadmill and table tennis. The villa also has a pool table.
